The Elmer's Glue Crew Recycling Program® is now partnering with TerraCycle™ , providing teachers with another way to return empty glue sticks and glue bottles! Click here for the Elmer's Glue Crew Brigade® FAQs.
Do I have to clean the glue sticks or glue bottles?
Yes. To ensure the bottles and sticks are recycled properly, it's best to clean them out first. This is a great task for your students.
What if I can't get the glue sticks or glue bottles clean?
Do the best you can. Use warm water to clean out the bottles, and remove the bottoms of glue sticks to get out any remaining glue.
Can I only recycle empty Elmer's glue bottles and glue stick containers?
Although, we will accept all brands for recycling, we cannot guarantee that they will meet the strict standards for recycling of these types of plastics. Elmer's Washable School Glue and Glue-All bottles that are marked with a #1 or #2 recycling symbol are recyclable at most recycling facilities, however, Elmer's Glue Sticks are made with plastic that requires special handling and therefore can only be recycled at designated facilities. We cannot guarantee that other brands of glue and glue sticks are made from recyclable plastics.
Can I place other materials in my box to be recycled?
While we encourage you to recycle all recyclable materials, for this program we can only accept empty glue bottles with the #1 or #2 recycling symbol and empty glue sticks. Please recycle other materials in accordance with your local recycling services.
What about larger, one-gallon glue jugs? Can they be recycled?
Yes. Wash them out and crush them as flat as possible.
What size box should I use?
We suggest you re-use a corrugated cardboard box, similar in size to a copy paper box or even a banana box or egg carton from your cafeteria. Please DO NOT use any plastic or paper bags, plastic containers or other non-corrugated containers.
What do I do when it's time to recycle the collected bottles and sticks?
Sign in to your account at terracycle.net and click on "Get Mailing Labels" on the left side of the Elmer's Glue Crew Brigade page to print a pre-paid shipping label. Place the label on your filled box and take it to a UPS drop-off location.
